PC Main memory is used to store programs and data electronically when your PC is running. Memory capacity is measured in megabytes MB (millions of bytes) and gigabytes GB (billions of bytes). Memory speed (transfer rates) are measured in the number of bytes (data) transferred in or out of the memory per second. Fast high capacity memory allows your PC to run multiple programs with out slowing down and with much less of a chance of crashing. The memory type used in main memory is called DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory). Dynamic implies that the memory must be electronically refreshed periodically. If it isn't refreshed the contents of the memory will be lost. DRAM has evolved much in the last few years.
All of SD RAM and DDRx memories are of the DIMM form factor. DIMM (Dual Inline Memory Module) is a small narrow circuit board containing individual memory chips that together give it the required capacity. DIMMs plug into the motherboard. Recommendation: Determine the type of memory your PC can support and buy as much of it as you can because bigger memory with high speed transfer rates means higher PC performance.
