Running Scandisk

As you save, erase, and move files sometimes things do not go just right. A PC is a very complex, fast machine and sometimes programs collide and mess up each others files.

This unwanted interaction can result in invalid files, files with lost file fragments, and cross linked files. You won't know when this happens and this is why you should run the Scandisk utility from time to time.


Follow this process for Windows XP, 7 and 10

On the Desktop locate and click:
  • 'My Computer' in Windows XP
  • 'Computer' in Windows 7
  • 'This PC' in Windows 10
This will display all the drives on the PC.


NOTE: If 'This PC' is not shown on the Windows 10 desktop, do the following to display it.
  • Right click the desktop and select Personalize from the drop down list.
  • Then click Themes and then Desktop Icon Settings.
  • Check the Computer box then click OK to save the changes.
To run Scandisk:
  • Double click the appropriate 'Computer' name for your operating system.

  • Right-click the drive you want.

  • Click on 'Properties', then 'Tools'.

  • Under 'Error Checking' click 'Check Now' and then Start.

  • A small scandisk window appears and the process begins.
